Edmonton – As a part of the Extreme Weather Response activation, the Al Rashid Mosque will collaborate with the City of Edmonton and Mustard Seed and open its doors to provide a safe and warm shelter for Edmonton’s most vulnerable citizens. The Al Rashid Mosque will provide shelter space and open its doors daily from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am.
The activation will take effect on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, and end on Saturday, December 3, 2022. The Mosque will keep its doors open if an extreme weather warning is in effect and temperatures remain dangerously low.
In addition to shelter space, guests will be offered hot meals, clothing, and necessities to stay safe and warm. Staff and volunteers will be available onsite overnight to provide additional support our guests may require. Sadique Pathan, the Al Rashid Mosque Outreach Imam, stated, “Being caring and compassionate for one’s fellow human beings is a central part of Islam.
Countless homeless citizens in Edmonton point to the need for all of us to step up and lend a helping hand.”
We urge all citizens around Edmonton and the Mosque area to direct any individuals needing shelter to the Al Rashid Mosque. Additional assistance and transportation to the nearest shelters are available by calling 211.
