Many people say Disneyland is the ‘happiest place on earth, but what is the most comfortable place in Canada? What brings you joy? It could be a delicious meal, a fun day of surfing, simply curling up with a good book and a hot beverage, or all these things and more.

There are many places to “go to your happy place” in Canada, from Vancouver Island’s towns to Newfoundland and Labrador’s national parks. Which one, though, is the happiest?

10. Windsor, NS
Does hockey make you happy? Of course, it does! Windsor is the birthplace of hockey and a must-visit for anyone who calls themselves a hockey fan. However, the Windsor Hockey Heritage Centre is only open until the end of September.
Playing this sport is fortunately even better for the soul. After ice skating on Long Pond, join the locals for a pint at the Spitfire Arms Pub. You can ask them why they’re so happy, but we’re guessing it concerns hockey.

Residents of Red Lake become happier when the days become shorter and the nights colder! From gallery displays featuring local artists to the Winter Carnival in February, this community in northwestern Ontario’s “Sunset Country” embraces winter with festivals and events galore. Red Lake Outfitters even provides a special winter excursion into the wilds of Woodland Caribou Provincial Park for the truly daring.
8. Port Hardy, BC
It is scientifically proven that being outside makes people happy. In Port Hardy, you may experience everything Mother Nature offers in under two hours, from the beach to the snow.
First, picnic on Storey’s Beach with maple salmon from Hardy Buoys Smoked Fish, a local legend. Then, drive to Mount Cain Alpine Park for an afternoon of skiing or snowboarding. You’ll never want to leave after finishing your day in town with a cappuccino at Café Guido.
7. Mingan, QC
It’s no coincidence that many of the happiest cities are near nature preserves. Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve isn’t your average park. However, it also has another feature that everyone enjoys: puffins! There are plenty of them.
As well as magnificent limestone cliffs and frolicking whales in the waters. Live music and a cocktail at Bar l’Écoutille in adjacent Havre-Saint-Pierre are the perfect nightcaps after a long day of exploring.

It’s simple to see why Trout River is one of Canada’s happiest places to live, with natural splendour like Gros Morne National Park right in its backyard. With its wide vistas of rugged mountains, verdant meadows, and Trout River Bay,

5. Jasper, AB
Forget Whistler; Jasper is one of Canada’s most beautiful winter wonderlands. The beautiful scenery is provided by icy blue Maligne Lake and tumbling Athabasca Falls, while the Marmot Basin ski resort offers the famed powder and action-packed photo opportunities. Even the lovely pastel cakes and latte art at local favourite Coco’s Café are Instagram-worthy fodder. So it’s no surprise that this town is so cheerful.
4. Sandspit, BC
Sandspit is the spot to go if you want to spend a relaxing day fishing. This little village is a year-round salmon and trout hotspot, with outstanding steelhead trout fishing in the winter. We’re confident that once you get out on the river in pursuit of this elusive, valued fish, you’ll be “hooked”! Alternatively, go to the Sandspit Inn’s tavern and trade tales with the locals to feel like you were there.
3. Wiarton, ON
Could Wiarton’s upbeat mood be linked to the Wiarton Willie Festival? Only the locals know for sure, but we’re inclined to wager it has something to do with Ontario’s largest winter celebration. This year, Willie’s understudy will take up the town’s albino rodent’s weather-predicting duties (#RIPWiartonWillie).
So if you get cold, stop by Berford Street Bookstore & Bazaar for a cup of locally roasted coffee amidst the shelves of books. We don’t know what else to call it if that isn’t happiness.

Hanging ten in Canada’s surfing capital is guaranteed pure ecstasy and the ideal season for swells in winter.
