The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the quadrennial international men’s soccer championship contested between the national teams of the member states of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar on November 20, 2022

This will be the first World Cup held in the Arab world and the first in a Muslim-majority country. The tournament is set to be played across eight venues, with plans for all matches to take place within a 28-day window. As hosts, Qatar automatically qualified for the tournament.

The remaining 31 places will be determined through a qualifying process in which 208 of FIFA’s 211 member associations are expected to compete. Qualifying matches will begin in late 2020 and conclude in November 2021.

What are the World Cup format and schedule?:

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled in Qatar from November 21 to December 18. The tournament format will see 32 teams compete in a group stage, with four groups of eight teams. Each team will play three group stage matches, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the knockout stage.

The knockout stage will consist of a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final. The schedule for the tournament has not yet been announced.
